Position Description | Welding Engineer JD
As the Welding Engineer you will be responsible for the development of welding techniques and procedures for all welding applications and/or qualifications. You will also be responsible for oversight of the metallurgical laboratory. Additionally, you will manage the technical requirements and welding activities to comply with both Military Welding Standard NAVSEA 250-1500 and Boiler Pressure Vessel Code ASME Section IX.
Experience in GTAW, PTA, and Oxyacetylene, and Welding Automation desired. You will be responsible for investigating and evaluating welding rejects and non-compliance issues. Determine appropriate cause(s) and corrective action(s). Recommends effective utilization of welding human resources and equipment to meet the Company’s goals.
Develop new welding procedures, oversee performance and evaluation of weld qualifications, and obtain required customer approvals of procedures and qualifications.
Interacts and provides technical support to welding production personnel. Investigates and evaluates welding defects to determine appropriate cause(s) and corrective action(s)
Primary technical interface with customers and vendors on welding issues.
Evaluate and implement use of new welding technology. Selects and recommends new welding equipment. Oversees procurements and installations of new equipment. Develops welding procedures and training of personnel for the utilization of new equipment.
Review new request for quotations for new welding requirements. Coordinates and provides Contract/Sales and/or Project Engineering with both welding plans and production welding estimates, including recommendations for new equipment, as applicable.
Provides oversight of weld record preparation and weld procedure and welder qualification records.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate possesses Nuclear MM welding training or is a civilian with an Engineering degree and a diversified background in welding (to a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a welding application engineer in a manufacturing environment with Oxyacetylene Hardsurfacing, PTA, GTA x-ray quality structure and seal welding as well as LASER and electron beam welding. You should also understand ASME IX and strength in engineering metallurgy of material properties, material specifications, pre and post heat-treatment requirements, brazing as well as knowledge of critical weld joints and hard surfacing deposits.
