Position Details

Position Description
As the Transportation Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing fleet operations at the plant level. This includes direct control over inbound and outbound freight cost, asset management, fleet safety compliance, driver dispatch, and ensuring service levels meet or exceed customer requirements. You will actively support all plant, regional and corporate logistics initiatives.

The Transportation Supervisor works for the Manager of Regional Fleet as part of the Transportation team while being an integral part of the Sealy Assembly Plant team. While ultimate management responsibility remains with the Manager of Regional Fleet, you will take direction relative to daily plant coordination for the location from the Director of Manufacturing and maintain a clear line of communication with the Sealy Assembly team. In cases where consensus cannot be achieved issues will be escalated to the Regional Manager of Fleet and Director of Manufacturing for resolution.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Key Results Area:
• Manage day-to-day fleet operations.
• Minimize inbound and outbound freight cost through focused cost management of plant and regional backhaul, fuel mpg and cpg, asset utilization, vehicle maintenance, accident and injury prevention, route optimization, and other major cost categories.
• Ensure that equipment and driver performance standards are meeting company specifications and expectations.
• Prepare and distribute driver dispatch sheet to all applicable personnel as required.
• Perform driver dispatch duties.
• Use of logistics software for daily management including reconciliation of actual vs. planned miles, driver fuel receipts vs. T-Chek and Penske reports and use of My Fleet at Penske for maintenance PO authorization.
• Measure and report daily/weekly/monthly KPI performance results.
• Manage and maintain driver payroll. Compare actual to planned miles. Ensure driver payroll is consistent with the requirements of the labor agreement (if applicable).
Fleet Safety
• Maximize fleet efficiencies through proper planning and execution of logistics strategies while ensuring a safe, compliant fleet.
• Monitor hours of service daily and enforce Company policy corrective action procedures for non-compliance.
• Maintain a safe, compliant fleet through strict adherence to all Company fleet safety policies.
• Administer a minimum of four driver safety meetings per year.
• Develop and maintain a “safety first” culture with respect to all aspects of fleet management.
• Monitor and uphold company safety requirements on all equipment and activity related to the delivery process (driver unloading carts, 3-point stance, seat belt use, Bluetooth compliance, etc.).
Customer Service
• Accountable for interaction with the customer on an ongoing basis regarding outbound delivery status.
• Ensure internal and external customer satisfaction in all areas of delivery service.
• Provide constant communications of service issues, both outbound and inbound, to appropriate personnel and departments.
• Oversee and ensure all customer delivery and pick-up requirements are meeting customer standards.
• Monitor, report, and manage delivery on-time performance standards as established.
• Work with Regional Transportation Manager to provide uninterrupted service to customers to meet surge capacity requirements.
Administration/Other
• Assist Director of Manufacturing and plant finance with Logistics budget preparation.
• Assist Director of Manufacturing with Policy and Deployment gap analysis.
• Facilitate, manage, and support all internal reporting requirements.
• Represent the company in a positive manner to our customers, suppliers, lease vendors, brokers, and all business contacts including other employees.
• Responsible for driver selection, retention, and corrective action.
• Reconcile delivery/backhaul documents and enter backhaul data daily into Backhaul Tracker.
• Maintain positive and encouraging working relations with all drivers.
• Coordinate all backhaul related proof of delivery documents weekly with plant accountant. This includes submission of confirmation sheets, signed bills of lading, and weekly summary sheets for each 3rd party backhaul broker.
• Demonstrate competency with all Logistics technology included but not limited to Mobilcast, T-Chek, PeopleNet, Manbase, PC-Miler, My Fleet at Penske, and any new technology introduced.
• Daily reconciliation of payroll documents, fuel receipts, maintenance PO’s, PeopleNet MWH events, and other administrative duties as required.


Position Requirements
• Ideal candidate has 5+ years of transportation/logistics management experience and has experience in a high paced manufacturing environment.
• Possess supervisory experience with managing groups of over the road truck drivers.
• Ideal candidate is safety and service oriented and has the ability and adaptability to prioritize daily tasks while juggling multiple priorities.
