Caddie Manager
Southeast
US Navy, E-6
After 20 years in the Navy as a Cook and a First Class Petty Officer, I decided to retire and began my terminal leave in March 2007. I had begun to look for jobs two months before. Having been employed steadily for the past 20 years, the thought of being without an income was a scary one, so I signed up for multiple resume website that said that they "catered to the military," but I wasn't getting anywhere for many months.
I then got an e-mail with an Orion job listing from TAP, and I responded to it the same day that I got it because it sounded like a dream job. When I sent in my response with my resume, I was expecting more of the same, but I was pleasantly disappointed when Orion contacted me the very same day and stayed with me through the entire process. It was obvious that they were in my corner and were there for me whenever I needed a helping hand. Before I received the job notice, my job prospects looked bleak. And the job market is so competitive that I would have probably ended up taking a job that I didn't really "want" but would have had to accept for survival sake.
You could have knocked me over with a feather at such a quick response. Sure enough, the position sounded like exactly what I had hoped for…a dream job. I love the game of golf, and the position, Caddie Manager with Caddiemaster, was something that I had, at first, never heard of, and second, sounded great.
My recruiter was such an advocate on my part with the company that I didn't have to do a pre-interview or a phone interview. They flew me down to their headquarters on his word alone. That is worth its weight in gold right there! Orion had confidence in me throughout my entire process. This confidence was genuine and extremely helpful. After my training began he contacted me several times to check on my progress and see how I was doing. Stephen was very informative and helpful. He was as interested in getting me the job as I was. I don't know of anyone other than family and close friends that have been such advocates for my success.
I don't know how many times I called my recruiter, but he called me at least twice as many times. His obvious goal was to help me be successful in my job search, and, with his encouragement, I had every confidence that I would be successful. I also knew that if for some reason if this opportunity hadn't worked out for me, he would have been there to help me with some other opportunity. Fortunately for me, I was successful, and I now have very high hopes for my future with the company that hired me. Again, this is a dream job for me.
I began my job about two-and-a-half weeks after my terminal leave started and have since been training with the company. It is as I expected and more. Without the help of Orion, I do not know where I would be or what I would be doing right now, but I am positive that I couldn't have found a better fit.
I am extremely grateful to Orion for their fine work. In honor of their support for me, I have become an Orion advocate. I advise my friends and anyone that is transitioning from the military to contact Orion if they want the best!
