Maintenance Tech

West
US Navy, E-6

I was an electrician, E-6, in the Navy when I separated on October 31, 2007. I started searching for a new career in October, and, thanks to Orion International, I found a job pretty quickly. Jim Lewis was my recruiter, and he treated me very well. There was no pressure. I told him what job I was interested in, and I was scheduled for an interview with that company.

At the time I started working with Orion, I was in Connecticut, and I wanted to look for a job in Washington State. One of the recruiters informed me that there would be a job conference in Seattle. I didn't want to turn down the opportunity and the experience I would gain from it.

The first day of the job conference was an overview of the companies that would be attending. We also did mock interviews to prepare us for the interviews the next day. We went over some questions that an interviewer might ask. The next day we interviewed with the companies that we requested. I had several interviews that went very well. I then did follow-up interviews the next week.

The position that I will be holding is Maintenance Facility Technician with Lee Technologies. Lee Technologies is an uninterruptable power supply company. The work I'll be performing with them is the same type of work that I did in the Navy. I'll be performing maintenance and troubleshooting of distribution panels, generators, and motors.

Orion and its recruiters were not pushy and never tried to steer me toward any one company. Other recruiters that I worked with offered only one job at a time. At the hiring conference with Orion, there were multiple companies from which to choose.
