US Marine Corps, E-7

After serving for 21 years as an Air Traffic Control Communications Technician Chief in the Marine Corps, I began terminal leave in June 2007. I attended the Orion base visit at Cherry Point and met my recruiter there. Even though I only met her a week before the hiring conference in Raleigh, she assisted me in updating my resume and making arrangements for interviews with seven different companies. Four of the companies followed up with a second interview the next day.

The hiring conference set up was excellent. The recruiters were very helpful, and the account executives gave very good explanations of their companies. By the time the conference was over, I had to choose between at least three different companies who wanted to hire me…all three months prior to starting leave. I had no time off between service and my new job!!!

While career-searching, I met several recruiting companies, but none of them ever called me back or attempted to follow up with me in any way, shape, or form. Thanks to Orion, I am now holding a middle management job that meets my salary requirements. My new career is exactly what I was looking for--busy but not behind a desk all day.
