Engineering Technician
West
US Air Force, E-4
My route to a new job through Orion International was a circuitous one that started back in 2000 when I ended my active duty Air Force tour, where I was an F-16 Avionics Journeyman with the rank of E-4. I was also an E-5 in the Washington Air National Guard with a position of Telecommunications Engineer. This tour ended in 2003. After completing my active duty, I got a job in the avionics industry through my own career research.
However, due to September 11, the aviation industry crashed, and I found myself searching for a job again. I did not end up getting a new job, though, and instead decided to enter college. After my school internship, I began working at Camp Pendleton refurbishing LCACs. This time, I decided it was time to look for a “career,” not just a “job.” It was at this point when a fellow coworker suggested Orion International for a new job since I was still looking, so I gave them a call.
Quang Truong was my recruiter. I am very grateful for Orion. I would not be in the position I am today without them. They took care of everything for me, always returned my calls, and worked around my hectic work schedule, which made it difficult to contact me.
At the hiring conference, I interviewed with eight companies. Seven were in-person, and the one with ATS Alaska was via phone. By the end of the conference, I had one pending offer and two on-site interviews scheduled. I ended up accepting a Specialist position with ATS Alaska where I will be working with the low voltage engineering section. It is an excellent position and is everything I hoped for and more. There will be continual learning, as well as new and retrofit jobs all over the state of Alaska.
Orion met every one of my needs. I have recommended them to those in my network that are former military and will continue to refer my friends and other prior military to them. Working with Orion was a great experience. If every candidate at Orion is treated as well as I was, they will all be as happy and satisfied as I am.
