My Orion International recruiter was Quang “Q” Truong. He gave me all the information I needed to get me to the Orion hiring conference. Once at the conference, everything just fell into place. Prior to the conference, I participated in a preparatory call that detailed what to expect and went over the companies that would be involved in the conference.

At first, I was very skeptical about working with Orion. The other recruiting agencies I worked with just sent me job descriptions that were mostly for jobs that had nothing to do with my expertise. Orion gave me an opportunity to see several different companies, select which ones best fit my skill set, and then actually interview with them face-to-face.

Orion seemed almost too good to be true. I nearly didn’t make the trip to San Diego for the conference. I just couldn’t believe some of the stories I heard about people getting hired on the spot or a couple of days later.

Ultimately, I made the trip to the conference. Everyone at the conference was very friendly and unbelievably helpful. I even learned how to tie a tie that day. That was the kind of help that really mattered to me. Orion made me feel comfortable and gave me the opportunity and information to succeed. All I had to do was be myself, and good things happened.

My first job interview at the hiring conference (my first interview in 12 years!) was with a company I was interested in, so I was a bit nervous. The company immediately cured that, though, because they were so friendly. I laughed and had a good time in almost every interview. Of course, we talked about business, but the interviewers really helped make the interview an easy and relaxing, yet professional process.

After the five interviews I participated (plus the sixth interview I did on my own with a company I wasn’t scheduled for), I felt good. I was still a bit unsure as to my future, though. It is bit taxing separating from the military and finding a civilian job, so I just couldn’t believe it could be this easy.

The day after the conference, I was contacted by “Q” to discuss the interview results and any potential second interviews. I had four companies that wanted to do a follow-up interview. This included my first choice. We arranged the follow-up interviews in order of my preference.

I went to a follow-up interview later that week with my first choice and was very excited. The interview went great. In less than two hours, I was traveling back home and feeling great.

Here is the most amazing part of my story…a part I couldn’t make up: Within 30 minutes of my interview, I received a phone call from the Regional Manager asking me if I would like the job! I had to pull over to the side of the road, because I was so excited. Right there, on the side of the highway, we negotiated a salary and came to a verbal agreement! The paperwork was sent to me the next day.

I couldn’t be happier! I have a great job with a great company that does great things. And I got the job all in a matter of four days. Unreal! I have Orion to thank for giving me the time, information, and opportunity to show some great companies what I have to offer.

And to think that I almost didn’t attend the conference, because I was skeptical! That would have been the biggest mistake of my life. The opportunities that Orion provides are very real and very worth the time and effort it may take to take advantage of them. Separating service members must know of the great service you provide at Orion! Thank you, Orion. Thank you! Thank you!
