Field Service Engineer

West
US Coast Guard, E-6

My final rank at separation was Petty Officer, First Class, in the United States Coast Guard. My rate was Avionics Electrical Technician, First Class, and, as such, I was the supervisor of the Avionics Shop in support of MH-60J Multi Mission Jayhawk Helicopters at Coast Guard Air Station Astoria. I served for six years and was discharged on July 28, 2008. I began my job search in January but did not have any luck until I began to work with Orion International in March. I was very pleased with my experience with Orion.

Prior to my separation, I was contacted by several other recruiting firms. None of them offered the level of personal service that Orion does. Most of them only give you a list of (poorly matched) positions and offer no guidance or insight into how to pursue them.

My Orion recruiter was “Q” Truong. I was given incredibly professional service during every encounter with all the Orion representatives I ever came in contact with. Everyone was exceptionally friendly.

The hiring process with Orion was very simple. First, I submitted my resume to my “Q” who looked it over and gave me recommendations for improvement. Then I was invited to a hiring conference, where I attended three interviews with quality companies. I have to say that the format for the hiring conferences was very well conceived.

It was the only time I had ever received that level of access to potential employers. If I hadn’t been interviewing through Orion, it would have been impossible to receive the quality feedback after interviews the way Orion allows for. Also, most employers never give you a salary range or any idea of the benefits they offer before you apply for the position, but Orion provides it for you. That’s great!

A week or so after the conference, “Q” contacted me to tell me about a position that he felt I was a good fit for, and, shortly after that, I was contacted for a phone interview by Lutron Electronics. I was flown out to Pennsylvania for a series of face-to-face interviews. An offer was made a few days later, and I accepted.

My new career begins August 4, just two weeks after my separation. My official title is Field Applications Specialist, and it is an exceptional match for my skills and needs. I set out to find a position as a Field Service Tech in the electrical/electronics field, and that is exactly what I will be doing.

I have a great job in the region that I prefer that provides enough money to support my family. I couldn’t ask for any more. I have recommended Orion International to several of my colleagues and will continue to do so in the future.
