Field Service Engineer

Northeast
US Army, E-6

I served as Staff Sergeant in the US Army and separated ten years ago. After working various jobs throughout the years, I sent Orion International my resume and location needs. Being a single parent raising two small children, I couldn't relocate. I also contacted another recruiting agency, but I never heard back from them.

I called Orion and asked what was available, and they invited me to a hiring conference. I listened to the brief about each company and applied what I learned, as well as my own people skills, in each interview. I received great reviews with some companies. In fact, I had two big companies looking at me and giving me offers for higher positions that I was not expecting after the hiring conference.

My recruiter treated me with the great respect and helped me through the process of editing/improving my resume and interviewing skills. He understood what I was looking for in a job and worked to match my background and skills to the available jobs. Thanks to his approach, I will hold a Field Service Engineer position with Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics. I had a big choice to make between the two offers I got, and I know I chose the right one with Siemens.

I do have some advice for transitioning military going through the hiring process with Orion. As you go through the process, listen to what is being said in the conference room, and apply it to the interview. Work on your interviewing skills, and don't be uptight in front of the interviewer. In my experience, most interviewers want to see if you have any people skills, as their jobs deal with a lot of customers. If you are frigid in the interview with one or two people, then how will you be able to interact with many?

I would like to say thank you again for inviting me to a hiring conference. This was the best hiring conference of its kind I have seen in the past ten years. Thank you again, Orion, and good luck to transitioning veterans.
