Customer Service Engineer
West
US Army, E-6
I served as a 94E for the Army, which is a Radio/COMSEC Repair Tech, and started terminal leave in March. I began looking for jobs as early as six months before, when my colleagues brought Orion to my attention.
My Orion recruiter, Jim Lewis, did an excellent job informing me about what to expect. He worked with my specific needs very well. He never pressured me into anything and showed a true interest in helping me find a career. You could tell he was a person who cared about his clients and not just out to make a buck.
Prior to the hiring conference, I kept in contact with Jim to discuss what my needs were and learn what opportunities Orion had for me. Once I was scheduled for a hiring conference, I participated in an online meeting to gain general knowledge of the companies that were to attend the conference.
On the first day of the conference we covered some interviewing skills and had small group discussions to get everyone more comfortable with speaking about themselves. We also had some briefs from the hiring companies on what they were looking for in a candidate and what their company was like. I chose to only interview with one company on day two. After that interview, I was contacted with an offer that same evening.
My general knowledge of electronics from the Army helped me get my foot in the door with Xoran Technologies. The skills I learned in the Army gave me eight years of experience working with electronics. I was lucky to have worked in a consolidated electronics shop, so I had learned a variety of electronics traits, not just my personal MOS. My job as a Customer Service Engineer consists of servicing electronic medical devices and computers. The military also helped make me easily trainable, which is a great trait to have when seeking employment.
Orion opened the door for me to obtain my current career. One of the hardest things to do while job searching is get an interview. Orion gets you that interview!
