Critical Incident Coordinator
South Central
US Army, O-2
The last job I held in the Army was Battalion S4. I was a Field Artillery First Lieutenant until today when I got promoted to Captain even though I am on terminal leave. As far as searching for jobs, I threw my line in the water in mid-September of last year, but as far as getting interviews and going to conferences, I didn't start that until December of 2008.
The recruiter I worked with most at Orion was Bob Berkholz. He was particularly helpful when it came to gaining perspective and weighing options. Bob started working with me in mid-January and picked job positions that he felt fit my background and that I was interested in. I didn't actually attend an Orion conference though I had plans to attend the Dallas conference in March.
The position that I will hold when I begin with KCS is Critical Incident Coordinator. It is the kind of job I was looking for because of my experience working in similar settings. This job met my geographical preferences, yet it was in a field with a lot of potential to learn and grow. I needed a job I was suited for in a place I wanted to live, and Orion made that possible in the most efficient manner.
I am by no means an expert on the matter of finding a job, but I can say that it is good to be as flexible as you possibly can. Think long term, and don't typecast yourself into a particular role.
