Operations Team Leader

Midwest
US Army, O-2

The last position I held on active duty in the Army was Tactical Intelligence Officer. I was a 1LT branched to Military Intelligence. I left the military in September 2008. It was my intent to return to school, but my family circumstances changed and I began searching for a job around October 2008, which incidentally was directly in the heat of the current economic crisis.

After about three months of searching unsuccessfully, I began to work with Orion International. I was recruited by Matt Owens and Todd Philips. I was treated amazing by both individuals. I felt an instant connection to both Matt and Todd, in that, they were both extremely knowledgeable about the market, my marketability in said market, and they were absolutely amazing in providing me the tools I need to be successful at the January 2009 conference. Moreover, they listened, understood, and adapted to my unique situation and circumstances. This made me feel as if I had a personal "employment coach", if you will.

I was set-up to attend a hiring conference in January 2009. Though I was very nervous and, frankly, not optimistic, Matt and Todd both took the time to help me prepare and understand that as long as I put in the work and used the tools they would provide, that I would be successful at conference. I took their advice to heart and went to the January 2009 conference, where I interviewed with five companies. I received second interview opportunities with my top two.

I will hold a position with General Mills as an Operations Team Leader beginning April 1, 2009. This is exactly the type of position I was looking for—something in a stable company with great leadership, good employee relations, family-oriented culture, and advancement opportunities. Orion not only met my needs with this position, they far exceeded them. At the risk of sounding clichéd, Orion has given me the opportunity for a better life for me and my family, and I will be eternally grateful.

While working with Orion, I also used two other recruiting agencies, both of which lacked the feeling of a personal connection. In short, I felt like I was just another number for them. I went to Orion a little more optimistic than when I went to the others simply because of the personal connection I felt with Matt and Todd, but honestly I expected the same sort of routine as with the other companies.

I was amazed when I got to conference and an entire day was dedicated to interview preparation and how to sell yourself. The level of commitment the recruiters and account executives had to all of us at the conference was amazing. Even more amazing still is the level of one-on-one time that was had with candidates who needed a little extra assistance. I was just amazed!

I just can't say enough about Orion. I would recommend this company to anyone who is serious about making a transition from the military to the civilian sector. Moreover, the level of follow-up and mentorship post-conference and interview are utterly amazing. Any other company would simply throw you to the dogs, ask you how it went, and send you on your way. I felt that Orion has been with me the entire way and continues with me today. I just can't say enough about how amazing this company is.
