Project Manager
West
US Navy, O-3
I left the Navy in May 2009 but began my job search in February 2009. JP Sniffen was my Orion recruiter, and he was great. He understood what I wanted, and I think he got me the perfect job as an Engineering Project Manager with Kinder Morgan.
In the Navy, I served as a Nuclear Engineer, Naval Reactors Headquarters, Lieutenant. Being an engineer in the new construction test program for VIRGINIA Class helped me to understand how major projects are completed and how to work with people of all different backgrounds, skills, and abilities. These skills prove valuable in my new job with Kinder Morgan.
The hiring process with Orion was much smoother than I anticipated. The two hiring conferences I attended were fantastic. I was terrified to interview with anyone, since I had never had a real interview before. But for my first interview I got to ‘sharpen my teeth’ (if you will) on a company that wasn't totally suited for me. It really helped, because it took the pressure to perform off. I realized I was doing pretty well and then applied that feeling to the rest of my interviews.
My first interview with my current employer was by phone. Both JP and Jennifer Terrell really gave me some great advice and helped me out the entire way. I was confident that not only could I nail the interview, but also do the job I was interviewing for.
Orion really stepped up to the plate for me. Orion was the only company that stuck by me through the whole process. While I was contacted by other recruiting agencies, I never heard from them again after the initial contact.
