US Navy, E-7

I began my job search in April of 2009 knowing that I was due for separation from the military in July 2009. I did the typical online resume submission, job searches, and job fairs that everyone does, and contacted Orion International upon the recommendation of two of my former shipmates. Right from the start, “Q” Truong got me focused on my first hiring conference in May 2009. Although the interview did not go ideally, it gave me interview experience that I had not had in nearly 12 years.

After being a Chief Fire Controlman, I had no idea what I wanted to be when I "grew up", but Orion helped point me in the direction that my qualifications and experience had led me to, by finding me a position that was an optimal fit for my experience and management skills. After my first hiring conference, Jay Koranda and Jim Lewis continued to check in on me to see how things were going. They genuinely cared about what I did and didn’t like about a company, and then tailored my interview opportunities accordingly.

Upon leaving the Navy, I determined that location and wage were my most two important requirements. I wanted to either stay where I was, go back home, or down to Arizona to be near other family members. Orion presented me with an opportunity with Clipper Windpower, just 15 minutes from my home of record. After several phone interviews, I flew out for an in-person interview, and the location, wage, position, and cost of living were absolutely perfect. I walked out of the interview feeling great, and four days later I was offered the position.

Orion did much of the legwork behind the scenes, including working with HR from Clipper, my background check, and getting referrals together. I received my offer letter and benefits package shortly thereafter, and was pleasantly surprised with all the benefits.

This is very much a win-win situation, and the beginning of a long and prosperous civilian career. I can honestly say I could not have been on unemployment much longer, as cabin fever was slowly starting to set in. Orion, with their dedication to meeting my needs, has fostered a great career path for me.

During that “scary” phase of transition when I was thinking “What am I going to do?,” I sought out other companies that claimed the same service, but in all honesty, they seemed more like they were saying, “You will do this, you need to do that”… where as Orion used my experiences and skills to market me, and did not try to fabricate an industry “fit”.

I am very happy in my new job and periodically still get phone calls and emails from Orion just to make sure that my needs were, and continue to be, met. I owe them a debt of gratitude. Thank you “TEAM ORION”, as it was a whole team effort throughout the hiring process. Your continued support is always welcome and appreciated!
