Sr. Operations Instructor
Northeast
US Navy, E-8
In August 2006, I left the Navy after serving for 26 years as an Engineering Department Master Chief-Senior Chief Electricians’ Mate-Nuclear. I began my job search in May 2006 and decided to use the services of three recruiting agencies, including Orion, which I had heard of through both mailings and references. Orion proved to serve my needs leaps and bounds ahead of the rest. They were by far the best and most active of all the agencies I talked to. I would tell my friends not to bother with any of the other guys.
It was a difficult time for me as I transitioned out of the Navy, and I was getting a rude awakening as to conditions in the civilian job market. My recruiter was courteous and always positive, even when it seemed that the job market in the area in which I was looking had dried up. We had long discussions about what I was looking for and my salary needs, as well as how to smooth out my resume. I also attended a hiring conference, which gave me great experience doing interviews and led to the job I have now with Constellation Energy.
While this job was not exactly what I thought I was looking for, my recruiter recognized that my talents matched this opportunity and helped me make the big decision and got me into a great job with great people at the salary I wanted. He was as excited as I was when they made me an offer. He even gave me some sound advice as to salary negotiations, which resulted in me getting more than originally offered! In the end, I obtained a job in which I can excel with unlimited growth potential.
