Field Service Engineer
West
US Navy, E-6
While I was serving, a lot of my junior personnel and friends that decided to separate were finding great jobs through Orion. I had no intention of separating at the time, but I suggested the company to others that were separating after seeing the successes of others. Everyone that used Orion was very happy. So when I decided to separate, I utilized their services, as well.
Jay Koranda found a company and position that was perfect for me, Field Service Engineer at Intuitive Surgical Inc. It's really amazing the types of industries that are interested in hiring veterans. I was looking into companies that were working with technology that I had never even heard of, and they were interested in me. (I now perform maintenance on the daVinci, which is for robotic laparoscopic surgery.) Orion really does a great job finding these companies, researching them, and finding a good fit for both.
It was surprising to me how much the military prepared me for my job. You are constantly put into new situations in the military and the hours are very demanding. I am working on something that has very little to do with what I did in the military right next to people that have attended schooling for it. You learn to be flexible, understand directions, and follow them, which is more valuable than any schooling.
I have a lot of respect for Jay. I knew that I wasn't his only priority, but I did feel as though I still was a priority. It's a tough job market right now, but Jay found a great company for me, talked me through the interview process, and followed up after every interview. End result: I got a terrific job within a month and a half after returning to the USA.
