Account Manager

US Navy, E-5
I couldn’t be happier with the service I received from Orion International and JP Sniffen. JP was a fantastic recruiter. The team at Orion is honest, and their structure ensures that they are incentivized to help candidates and not just client companies.
This was the second time that I worked with Orion to find a job. I was previously placed by Orion in 2004 with a container ship terminal operator. When January 2010 rolled around, I was looking for a change and was once again quickly placed by Orion.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree before joining the Navy as an E-3 in 2000. I was a parachute rigger and had been promoted to E-5 by the time I got out. I found that my military experience adds a level of attention to detail and fosters an attitude that failure is simply not an option that civilians do not always have. One thing that I did not appreciate while I was still in the Navy but do now is the fantastic brotherhood that I am a part of as a veteran.
The ability to push myself, persevere, and keep moving with a smile when the day is long are all essential attributes that I learned in the military. Most important for me has been the ability to deal with what other people consider a bad day. I always remind myself that no one has shot at me today, and I’m warm, dry, and safe. Life is good. It is all about perspective.
I attended one hiring conference both times that I worked with Orion. I was given briefs for each company, and Orion was available to answer questions at any time. They held my hand through everything from the initial interviews to the negotiation process at the end. In fact, I was so well paired with the companies and prepared by Orion that out of a total of seven interviews, I received offers from four companies, and was waiting for a fifth, including my top choice from each conference.
I am an account manager for a fantastic company in San Diego. I love the company and the people I work with and for. I also enjoy terrific flexibility with my schedule for school and family.
I would tell veterans to remember that they have some fantastic skills and valuable experience that they don’t even realize. You may wonder, as I did, “Can I make it in the real world?” You CAN. You’ll be great. Follow Orion’s advice, give your best effort, and you’ll be glad you did. Best of luck! HooYah!!!
