Project Engineer
Northeast
US Army, O-3
When I was in college, I accepted what I thought was the fact that I would never use my degree. I graduated from Florida Institute of Technology in 2005 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned directly into the Army as an Engineer Officer. Four-and-a-half years and two deployments later, my family and I decided it was time to leave the Army as a Captain. I had a job lined up was excited about moving forward, but then the job unexpectedly fell through after I had already left the Army.
Soon after, I was in contact with Orion, among other recruiting agencies. While other agencies either didn't call me back when I called them, or said "Ok, I'll let you know if something crosses my desk," Orion started actively searching for careers that fit my needs. They also helped me broaden my horizons with new career path and locations options I hadn't previously considered.
Everyone I worked with at Orion was very helpful throughout the entire process. I attended four hiring conferences, multiple onsite interviews, and, through it all, the recruiters and account executives were there to help me. They even helped me get up and dust myself off when I got a "Sorry, you're just not for us," answer.
Six months after leaving the Army, almost to the day, I got a job offer with a company I probably would've never interviewed with if Rob Gumpper hadn't said, "Joe, you're a dead fit for this job. I've placed guys just like you with this company in the past."
I'm now a Project Engineer with E2M. The position actually utilizes both my degree and military experience. I use my degree on a daily basis, and I also use the team building and teamwork skills I learned in the Army throughout every project I'm on.
I encourage everyone I know in the military to contact Orion and to do so well before I did to help ensure they don't spend an extended time without a paycheck!
