Customer Care Representative
West
US Navy, O-2
I learned about Orion International from my ship’s career counselor. This was about 10 months before I was planning to leave, but I started getting advice for my resume. I had two recruiters, and they both always listened to my needs and helped me translate my strengths and experiences from the Navy into skills civilian corporations appreciate and want. Throughout the entire process, they were both always available to answer my questions and concerns. I started searching for jobs with Orion on December 1, 2005, and went to a hiring conference the first weekend. I wanted to stay in San Diego, and Orion was able to get me five interviews with highly reputable companies that had openings in San Diego. Post-conference, I choose my top three companies and got second interviews with all three. From there, I narrowed my choices down to two and received offers from both of them. Then it was up to me, and I chose the best company for me. I began working as a Customer Care Representative with John Laing Luxury Homes on January 23, and I love my job so far. I am very impressed by the company and its people. With my base pay, car allowance, and robust benefits, I took no pay cut leaving the Navy as an LT.
For me, Orion definitely surpassed the competition. Other recruiting companies told me ‘there is no way you can stay in San Diego, how about…,’ and they would rattle off a list of cities that I was not willing to consider. They also tried to sell me on companies they knew I was not interested in. I felt like I always being ‘sold’ a line. I didn’t trust that they had my best interests at heart. But with Orion, they listened to what I wanted, told me what I needed to do to succeed in the interview process, and 100% set me up for success. It was never about placing me just to place me. It was about my finding my dream job.
