Maintenance Manager
South Central
US Army, O-4
I am a retired Army Major who spent almost 21 years working my way through the ranks from enlisted to warrant officer and finally to commissioned officer. My enlisted and warrant officer background is maintenance based, with the last 10 years spent as an officer leading organizations and performing other tasks, as assigned.
I started my job search in January 2011 by submitting online resumes, searching job boards, and going directly through company’s websites. In all my efforts, I only received one telephone call. Through talking with other Officers and searching the Internet, I found the Orion International website and submitted my application and resume.
In March 2011, I was invited to attend the Orion Distinguished Candidate Conference in Dallas. Bob Berkholz called to discuss the companies I would be interviewing with, and, after discovering my maintenance background, he had me lengthen my resume to a second page. The job I ultimately accepted was due to my maintenance background.
Prior to the conference, Bob and his team were able to identify companies I would be a good fit with and set up the interview schedules. The first day of the conference was organized to assist candidates with interviews and introduce them to the companies in attendance. The second day was game day, the day to complete all interviews. I had six interviews scheduled, some with well-known companies and some with smaller organizations. The two days with Orion in Dallas were exhausting, but well worth the efforts put forth by all involved.
After the conference, I was contacted by David Lehmkuhl in regard to follow-up interviews with two of the six companies I interviewed with. Chris Davis also called and set me up with a third follow-up interview. All three companies were great fits, and I hated to not be able to take all three jobs! Ultimately, I was able to secure a position as a Maintenance Manager with Post Rock Energy before I even started my terminal leave from the Army.
I found working with Orion to be the best thing that happened to me in my transition to the civilian job market. They talked with me about my needs and preferences and secured me interviews that fit those requirements. The recruiters at Orion made me feel like a professional sports free agent by dealing with the companies for me and setting up all travel and lodging. What was looking to be a stressful transition turned into a very easy process. I would gladly recommend Orion as the premier agency for military professionals to work with in securing their next career.
