Project Manager
Midwest
US Army, O-3
I felt that my Orion recruiters did an exceptional job in helping evaluate my needs and then coaching me through the discussion of why another career change made sense. I was apprehensive about how employers might perceive multiple career changes, and the Orion guys helped me understand typical perspectives, attitudes, and needs of the people with whom I was interviewing. The result was a lot of confidence in immediately transferable skills that helped overcome my own concerns. I was pretty excited about each of the opportunities I interviewed for and feel that any of them would have been a good new direction.
Having interviewed extensively in graduate school and then in the civilian workforce previously, I was quite prepared for the actual hiring events. The value Orion provided was a very deep knowledge of the individual positions, the job requirements, and the history of the job order (why the firm was looking to fill a particular position.) Compared to a monster.com posting, I was extremely well prepared to explain how I could create value for the firm quickly.
I am finishing my first week as a "Project Manger" in a New Business Ventures division for a major corporation. Imagine working for a startup company backed by a Fortune 500 budget. I was surprised and pleased that that this type of position was available through Orion, because it incorporates many of the advanced management skills I acquired later in my military career and those I gained with my MBA. The requirements are very refined rather than simply being "any JMO with the leadership skills of a platoon leader and the discipline to be successful in the military." I am performing significant tasks that use a wide variety of skills and directly affect profitability. For a guy approaching mid-career, I thought I'd be looking at entry-level work below my capabilities, but that's definitely not the case.
Orion met my needs in every way. All of the guys I worked with were extremely able to work with me being slightly out of the box as a "civilian-experienced" candidate. The Orion guys quite capably accommodated me with my unique needs, as well as how I was presented to the prospective employers.
