Boiler Inspector
Northeast
US Navy, E-4
During my civilian transition class (TAP) in November 2012, I met with Tony Hoffman, who gave an extensive amount of information regarding careers that would apply to my field of study (Nuclear Machinist Mate). He also had great opportunities available with companies that were actually interested in hiring people.
In the Navy, I was in charge of an inspection program, which entailed performing inspections, writing reports, documenting deficiencies, and presenting the information to various individuals. I have accepted a career as a Boiler Inspector at HSB Inspection Services, so I feel that my training in the military and the career I was able to find are very closely linked. I am confident that I will be very successful in the civilian sector, not to mention enjoy a huge increase in my quality of life.
My recruiter was Tony, and I was also greatly assisted by Mike Wooster. I know from personal experience how much time Tony and Mike spent making sure I received everything that I wanted out of my career choice. Any time I had a question or even just wanted to talk about something, Tony and Mike were both always there to help me in any way and give me quality advice that I could really apply to my situation. I feel that they truly cared about my best interest, and they were not satisfied until I was.
I can tell that Orion genuinely cares, and I can tell that other firms are just looking for numbers. Anyone who is transitioning out of the military knows that time is very important, so do not waste what precious time you have with people who do not care about you, your family, and your needs. I would recommend Orion as my first and only choice when it comes to assisting you with your civilian transition. It just feels great to know that I can use the training I acquired in the military and actually have people understand and appreciate all the special skills I have.
I would say to anyone that is getting out of the military, or thinking about getting out of the military, DON'T BE SCARED. There are a lot of great people who care about your well-being and will help you along every step of the way. Learn as much as you can while you're in the military, then take that knowledge and use it to get a real paycheck, working with real people, and still have time to spend doing the things that are important to you.
