  • Veteran Spotlight: Trent Freeman

This week, we’re proud to profile Trent Freeman, a former US Navy Flight Officer who is now in a Leadership Development Program with Exact Sciences, a biotechnology company focused on colon cancer screening research and development. With his separation from the Navy on the horizon, Trent proactively started looking for jobs a few months out from his terminal leave date, and reached out to Orion for assistance.

After requesting more information about an upcoming Philadelphia Distinguished Candidate Conference, Trent was put into contact with a Recruiter. “My Recruiter was extremely supportive throughout the entire process and mindful of my goals and desires,” Trent stated. “I explained to him that I didn’t really want to end up in the Northeast, but wanted to come to the conference anyway to see what opportunities were out there, and that, for the right opportunity, my wife and I would consider relocating. He completely understood and encouraged me to come to the conference. Lo and behold, I found my new career at that conference.”

At the conference, Trent interviewed with Exact Sciences, where he was offered an on-site interview and ultimately a job offer as a Professional Medical Representative in their Veterans Sales Development Program.

Trent credits his experience in the military as a Naval Officer beneficial in his new role. “The Navy conditioned me to operate at a high-level in complex, fast-paced and dynamic environments,” he stated. “The methods, thought-processes, approaches, and tenacity required (in the military), I believe, are directly translatable and will help me be successful in this field.”

Trent also reminded transitioning military members and veterans that the intangible soft skills that are acquired in the military allow for success in virtually any industry. “I think that is evidenced by the numerous veterans succeeding across industries in the United States today,” he remarked.

Lastly, Trent urged anyone considering Orion Talent to give it a chance. “There is nothing to lose. You will have the opportunity to interview for jobs that you never knew existed and jobs that you didn’t know you might be qualified for,” he said. “I would have never learned about the career opportunity I have now with Exact Sciences had it not been for Orion, and it was exactly what I was looking for.”

If you are transitioning soon and looking for a civilian career, join Trent and the thousands of others like him who have found rewarding careers through Orion Talent. Begin your career search with Orion and register today.
