  • Veterans Day, Every Day - Resources for Employers Hiring Our Nation's Heroes
Veterans Day may have been Monday; but, at Orion, every day is about veterans! Founded in 1991 by five former Junior Military Officers to help veterans find meaningful careers, we are proud to continue our mission 28 years later. And we are thankful to partner with companies that understand the technical expertise and leadership former service members bring to their civilian careers.

We are excited to have been recognized by the US Department of Labor as a Gold Medallion recipient of the 2019 HIRE Vets Medallion Program Award during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., earlier this month. This award is the only federal-level veterans’ employment award that recognizes a company or organization’s commitment to veteran hiring, retention, and professional development. You can learn more about the award here.

We are proud that our commitment to veterans continues to be evident. And our commitment to employing veterans also extends to companies looking to hire those veterans. With this goal in mind, we encourage our clients to check out these two new resources to help them better understand the value of a veteran in the civilian workplace and how to go about hiring them.

First, we offer insight in a new e-book from Andy Pero and Shane Bishop, Account Executives at Orion Talent and Service Academy graduates, who began their post-military careers at Orion in 1999. During that time, Andy and Shane have helped at least 400 companies hire more than 2,000 veterans, and have gleaned some valuable best practices that we have compiled in “1999-2019: Lessons Learned from 20 Years of Military Hiring.”

Second, to see a veteran transition in action, check out this Chicago Tribune article featuring Orion alum and Army veteran David Dirks discussing his transition, as well as Mike Starich, CEO of Orion Talent, and former Marine Corps F-4 Phantom Flight Officer and Officer Recruiter, explaining how to navigate the “highly competitive” military recruiting field.

“Orion Talent succeeds in finding rewarding, meaningful careers for veterans, and nearly 80% of our new hires within the last year are former service members,” states Mike. Our recruiting methods and services may evolve, but, at our core, Orion Talent remains a company run by veterans for veterans.

These are just a few of the resources we offer employers. Please visit our Recruiting Resources page for a full suite of e-books, white papers, podcasts, infographics, and expert insight into military hiring. Orion has found careers for over 47,000 veterans with more than 7,500 companies, and we look forward to sharing the knowledge we have gained with you.
