Orion Talent Strengthens Commitment to National Defense Through Corporate Membership with the Navy League of the United States (NLUS) and Sponsorship of the Center for Maritime Strategy (CMS)
CARY, NC - January 24, 2024 — Orion Talent is proud to announce its status as a Corporate Member of the Navy League of the United States (NLUS) and as a sponsor of the Center for Maritime Strategy (CMS). This strategic alliance will address key trends in industrial labor markets and challenges faced by employers in the maritime defense sector. Orion Talent is honored to contribute to crucial conversations and focused research in collaboration with NLUS and CMS.
Orion Talent CEO, Sarah Peiker, conducted high-level discussions with CMS Dean Admiral James G. Foggo (ret.) MSC and Navy League of the United States CEO, Mike Stevens, in December 2023 in Washington DC, marking the official establishment of this impactful alliance.
The Navy League of the United States (NLUS), a non-profit civilian, educational, and advocacy organization, supports America’s sea services, including the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine. In addition to supporting youth programs and enhancing the morale of sea service personnel and their families, the NLUS serves as a powerful voice in educating the public and Congress about issues important to America’s defense, well-being, and economic prosperity.
The Center for Maritime Strategy (CMS), a non-profit, non-partisan think tank and research institution, is an integral part of the Navy League of the United States. Dedicated to studying maritime issues within the broader context of American national security policy, CMS shapes strategic discourse.
Mike Stevens, CEO of the Navy League of the United States, will serve as the keynote speaker at Orion Talent’s San Diego Distinguished Candidate Conference on Sunday, February 4th. Stevens retired from the U.S. Navy in 2016 after serving as the 13th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, the senior enlisted advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations and to the Chief of Naval Personnel. The keynote address will cover transitioning to meaningful post-military work, addressing the shortage of workers in key industries, and highlighting the importance of supporting the defense industrial base.
Orion Talent is honored to embark on this collaborative journey with the Center for Maritime Strategy and the Navy League of the United States, contributing to vital discussions on industrial labor markets and challenges in the maritime defense sector.
Laura Schmiegel, SVP of Strategic Partnerships at Orion Talent, emphasized the potential impact of the collaboration, stating, "Orion Talent and the Navy League have a powerful opportunity to help our nation's defense industrial base close the skills gap and replenish its ranks. The Navy League is the nation's premier subject matter expert on maritime policy and industry. Orion has nearly 35 years of experience placing military veterans into great careers in manufacturing and infrastructure. Together, we can give real career opportunities to transitioning service members while supporting our nation's security by ensuring a stable pipeline of ships and materiel. We could not be more excited for this partnership.”
