Local Veterans Bring New Networking Event to Nashville

Monday, December 2, 2019
For some, thoughts of Nashville may conjure images of country music stars in flashy outfits; but the Nashville of today is a hub of diverse music, gourmet food, and novel entertainment. This energetic town is also located in a county with about 37,000 veterans. These facts combined make Nashville an excellent choice for a new veteran networking event launched by Aaron Martin (Orion Talent recruiter; and retired Army Master Sergeant),  Eric Horton (The Transition Hacker and former Army Sergeant Major), Michael McCoy (Community Engagement Manager of Operation Stand Down Tennessee and Army National Guard Captain), and Ted Hacker (co-founder of the American Freedom Foundation).

L to R: Aaron Martin, Michael McCoy (Operation Stand Down Tennessee), Brian Arrington (Vets2Industry), Eric Horton, Ted Hacker

#LinkedInMusicCity took place on November 20 at MAFIAoZA’s, and hosted 128 people, including 31 different businesses, all there to support the local veteran community. Modeled after #LinkedInMilCity, an event created by four different members of the veteran community in San Antonio, Texas, this was the first such event in Nashville, with another event already in the works.

Aaron Martin speaking at #LinkedInMusicCity

“When my colleagues and I transitioned from the military, we quickly realized that you don’t know what you don’t know. And unless you are in a 'veteran transitioning hotspot' like San Diego or DC, there may not be a lot of opportunities to network. This is why Eric, Michael, Ted, and I organized #LinkedInMusicCity in Nashville,” explains Aaron.

“And we had an awesome turnout! The event brought great veteran leaders within corporations like Tractor Supply, State of Tennessee, and Asurion together with transitioning veterans all in one fantastic night. For a small grassroots event, we are excited to have had such an amazing response. A special shout out to MAFIAoZA’s for hosting the event. What a great team!”

Orion Talent is proud of Aaron Martin and his team. This event highlights the resourcefulness of veterans and provides an excellent resource for their fellow veterans. If you are in the Nashville area and would like to attend the next #LinkedInMusicCity, please contact Aaron Martin.

Monday, May 20, 2019
Yes, you read that right. It’s been over 10 years since the Great Recession of 2008 and most U.S. economists are now predicting a recession by the end of 2020. Reports are starting to show downtrends in CEO confidence and slowdowns in manufacturing, energy, and high tech. There are signs in the field, too, with less “high volume” job openings and a rising threshold on candidate qualifications.
